Borrowed Manners (True Self) This is the story of Mboa, who borrowed clothes to impress his girlfriend's family, only to be disgraced when the owners embarrassingly reclaimed their belongings in front of the family. Forced to shed his facade, he embraced his true self …and was accepted. In Cameroon, this tale mirrors how much we may subconsciously use foreign tendencies (debris of colonialism) to cover the essence of our own varied uniqueness and identity, as individuals and as a country. In love, we may want to impress but it is always easier to be yourself and be accepted for authenticity. This Valentine's Day, We learn that loving self and nation is more similar than we think.
